Last night was Jamison's first track meet. It was held indoor at the local University.
While the track itself was pretty nice, the accommodations for spectators were not! The balcony designated for spectators was packed 3 to 4 people deep. We were all trying to peer over the head of the person in front of us to hopefully get a glimpse of our runner. (My construction minded husband was not totally sure we should even stand on that balcony as it was surely not constructed to withstand that much weight.) At one point, I wondered why I had bothered to come. It certainly was not an ideal place to be with a three year old!
However, that ALL changed once my son was on the track. Jamison ran an incredible mile last night. His stride was beautiful. He paced himself with grace and maturity. It was so fun to watch! It was SO worth every uncomfortable minute waiting!
He was thrilled with his performance. His goal time for the season is 5:45 and he ran 5:50 last night. (He is running the 800 too, but at the moment the mile is what he is most focused on.) So far he has enjoyed track more than football and basketball. He loves that it is all bout him. He just has to concentrate on himself, his workout, his times, his performance. He is working his tail off, coming home STARVING and SMILING after each practice.
Hey, Jay... Dad was totally pumped for you last night too. We did not stand together during the race, but when I walked over to him after you finished he had the biggest grin on his face. He said, "Did you see that?!? He was awesome!"
It is going to be a fun season!
