The "Scoop" on Backfilling

Chad has spent the last two evenings backfilling our new home.

We are raising the site, so we do not have enough fill on site to do the job.
We are so thankful that he has found dirt for a great price VERY close by!

However, it is STILL a big job!
He will need to haul about 100 truckloads of dirt to complete the task.
Yep!  That is A LOT of dirt!
This picture gives a glimpse at the progress.

The pink walls are the insulated house foundation.
This foundation will need to be packed (literally) full of dirt to within 4 inches of the top - both inside and out.

On the outside, Chad will haul enough dirt to create a very gradual slope away from the back of the house.
This is a photo of the future garage.

He has not begun backfilling it.
The "deep" area is the trenched footprint dug just wide enough to form and our the footings.
The "high" area is the original ground level.
Each area needs to be filled and packed before anything else can happen.

We are hoping it will be complete by the end of the weekend.
(It all depends on the weather, of course.)

Just in case you wondered -
YES! the shortest member of out dirt crew was hard at work tonight.
And he was devastated when daddy got to work overtime and he had to go home and go to bed.
"No fair!"
